When I started my freshman year at UCLA, I was scared, nervous, and as I knew no one on campus, very lost.
On a whim, I decided to go to a rush event for Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi, even though I had already decided that sororities were expensive, superficial, and I would never belong to one. At that first rush event, I met a group of girls that immediately welcomed me and reignited my desire to embrace and explore my Jewish identity. A quarter later I was being initiated as a sister of Sigma, and I haven't looked back since.
Sigma Alpha Epsilon Pi is everything I was looking for in a sisterhood, without any of the qualities that I feared when I heard the word "sorority". There is no doubt in my mind that the success I have found at UCLA, be it social, professional, or academic, is all thanks to Sigma. If you are a new Bruin, welcome to UCLA. You are about to embark on the most eye-opening, enriching experience of your life. I would love to join you as your sister.
